Intermediate Phase

The intermediate phase is the education phase from Grade 4 to Grade 6.  In this phase more focus is placed on technical and academic skills.  A bigger variety of subjects are taught, namely Languages, Mathematics, Natural and Social Sciences, Life Skills and Arts.  Children are introduced to new concepts and more formal assessments.  The use of goal setting and time management, like using homework books, daily activity planners and calendars, are essential to this phase.  In the intermediate phase learners use what they have learned in the foundation phase to build their knowledge and learn new concepts.  Critical thinking habits and traits are grown.

At Harriston we believe in the identification and development of the unique talents innate in each child.  A variety of cultural and sport activities are offered.  These activities form part of an “integrated school day”.
