At Harriston we believe that participation in sport at a competitive and social level is the cornerstone of a young person’s development. The aim being to promote physical wellness and a balanced lifestyle to ensure the holistic development of every learner.
The school takes part in festivals and leagues throughout the year, which give learners the opportunity to take part and perform.
Athletics
Harriston offers athletics in the first term of each year. Athletics is enjoyed by all phases of the school.
Harriston mainly competes against schools in the Eastern Free State.
Netball
We are very privileged to have two netball courts on our school premises. Netball practice times are divided into phases so all teams can have the opportunity to enjoy the facilities.
Hockey
All learners at Harriston get the opportunity to participate in hockey. We are extremely proud of our Astro. Harriston was privileged to host some senior hockey tournaments.
Cricket
Harriston offer cricket in the fourth term. Foundation phase learners play mini cricket and the festivals are always filled with fun and laughs.
Intermediate phase learner plays in the Eastern Free State cricket league.
Mountain biking
Harriston added mountain biking to our sport list. With the beautiful and safe Platberg Eco Park on our doorstep it offers a lot of obstacles for this technical sport.
Squash
Squash is offered in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th terms for High School children at the Harrismith Country Club.
Tennis
Tennis is offered in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th terms for all phases.
